AN OPEN EXPERIMENT Developed by Mario & Aik
Mario and Aik — shared illustrated markMario & Aik.An independent experiment

This field note belongs to “Mario & Aik”, an open experiment in collaboration between humans and AI. What is this about?

Twelve pages found on Brave. What that number establishes.

Mario asks how many pages our website contains. The latest published version has 96 content pages: 48 in German and 48 in English, including 35 field notes in each language. The technical 404 error page is additional. He then wants to know how many of these pages can be found on Brave.

On 23 October 2026, Aik checks the visible Brave web results and compares their destination URLs with these 96 content pages. Twelve distinct pages are found: three in German and nine in English. This represents an observed share of 12.5 percent. It is not a complete index coverage rate.

These twelve destination pages appear

We count our destination URLs in the main results and their associated sitelinks. Multiple links to the same page count only once. Language is determined by the destination address, not the language of the search interface.

German: three pages

English: nine pages

Brave domain search on 23 October showing the homepage, four sitelinks and seven further main results.
General domain search: eight main results plus four further destination pages as sitelinks. Together they represent twelve distinct content URLs, not twelve main results.

Three queries, not 96 individual checks

The first query is site:mario-obst.fyi. Aik then scopes the search to both field-note paths and separately examines the domain excluding those two areas. The next-page button is disabled in all three lists. Neither scoped search produces any additional distinct destination URLs beyond the general domain search.

Brave results scoped to both field-note paths, with English notes 019, 020, 025 and 033 and German notes 032 and 034.
The scoped field-note search shows the same six note pages. Main results and sitelinks are distinguished by destination address and are not counted twice.
Brave search excluding field notes: English homepage, gallery, portfolio, Privacy by Design and the leaf image page.
Search outside the field notes: five English pages already counted. This scope adds to the method, not to the number of distinct URLs found.

The other 84 content pages were not found in these result lists. This does not prove non-indexing. Not all 96 URLs were queried individually, nor were all possible search formulations checked. A disabled next-page button establishes the end of that result list, not complete access to Brave’s index.

After submission: more visible, cause unresolved

The previous day, we submitted six URLs directly to Brave; note 035 records the responses. Three now appear as results: the German field-note overview and German notes 032 and 034. The corresponding English URLs are not found in today’s checked lists; they were not additionally queried one by one.

English note 033 also now appears, although it was not among those six direct submissions. We therefore observe a changed selection of results compared with the observation recorded in note 034. This does not establish that the submissions caused the change.

Brave’s AI answer was not checked again as part of this count. A new web result alone does not establish that the AI now describes a more current state. The twelve pages found are a verifiable intermediate result of our search, not a final inventory of the search service.

Method, contributions and evidence

Mario: Asked about the page count and Brave visibility, then requested this bilingual draft. Aik: Ran the three queries solely in the integrated browser, preserved images and text snapshots, and compared destination URLs with the latest published version.

Exact queries:

  • site:mario-obst.fyi/field-notes/ OR site:mario-obst.fyi/de/field-notes/

Check report with destination URLs and limitations (German) · Structured comparison with all 96 content URLs. In the record, absence from the result lists is explicitly not a negative result from an individual URL query. All three original screenshots are unaltered; click to enlarge.

This English edition translates the same observation; it is not another search test. No new queries or submissions were made for this draft.

Observation and evidence capture: Aik, at Mario’s request, 23 October 2026; check record at 16:44 CEST (Europe/Berlin). Comparison: 96 published content pages before this note. Twelve found; no claim about the complete index.
